Ingredients:
黃小米 Yellow millet, 30g
紅米 Red-tinted brown rice, 30g
高粱米 Chinese sorghum, 7g
懷山藥 Huai Shanyao, fresh, 5g
炒薏苡仁 Job’s tear, dry fried, 3g
黃耆 Astragalus, 3g
銀耳 Snow fungus, 2g
炒山楂 Hawthorn fruit, dry fried, 1g
大棗 Jojobe, 3g
陳皮 Aged tangerine peel, 2g
枸杞子 Goji berry, 3g
麥芽 Malt, 2g
蓮子 Lotus seeds (plumules removed), 2g
小黃薑 Small yellow ginger, 3 slices
Preparation:
Boil the ingredients on high heat until water is boiling, switch to low heat and slow cook until the beans and seeds are thoroughly cooked and softened.
Usage:
Best time to use this formula is between May 5 and May 20. Most suitable for the next five days (一候 phase one).
According to 「月令」 “The Monthly Orders,” 物候 the seasonal material manifestations of 立夏 Beginning of Summer are:
1st Qi Phase: Mole Crickets Croon 螻蟈鳴;
2nd Qi Phase: Earthworms Emerge 蚯蚓出;
3rd Qi Phase: Snake Gourds Grow 王瓜生。
For the year of 壬寅 Water Tiger, Wind-Wood Qi is excess in general. Shaoyang Ministerial Fire governs the first half of the year, while Jueyin Wind-Wood governs the second half of the year. We are entering the 4th quarter of the 2nd Qi phase of this year. Currently the Host Qi is Shaoyin Imperial Fire, and the Guest Qi is Taiyin Damp Earth. Heat is easily stuck in the Upper Burner, leading to cough, nausea, vomiting, carbuncles, chest fullness and tightness, headache, fever, dizziness.
The proper treatment is to treat the Guest Qi – Taiyin — support it with sweet flavor, drain it with bitter flavor, and moderate it with sweet flavor. In general, eat mainly red grains, plus a lesser portion of hemp seeds to prevent damp invasions.
The best foods and drink for this season include:

Hawthorn & goji porridge 山楂枸杞粥:
Hawthorn fruit: Goji fruit: white rice = 1 : 1 : 5
