The Name
Oku = Deep Joy
This is a phrase from an ancient Japanese language called Kotodama (言靈), sacred words, which existed before the introduction of Chinese Kanji to the island. Kotodama was created in the belief that our spoken and written words convey a powerful force that affects us on a physical level.
“O” 奧 = “profound,” “internal depth” — a word that heals our body tissues, especially the bones, on a cellular level.
“Ku” 樂 = “joy,” “music,” “relaxation” — a word that eases us from pain, anger, stress, and other negative experiences.
“Oku” is a powerful healing sound that has been existing in our body. Every time we pronounce “Ou-Kuu,” we are resonating with, and therefore awakening, the natural healing ability of our body
The Logo
The figure featured in the logo is called Di Jiang (帝江), an ancient god recorded in the ancient “Classic of Mountains and Seas,” Shan-Hai Jing (山海經).
This mythical god has no distinctive sensory organs, has a round body “as a full yellow sack”, six legs, and four wings. He is believed to acknowledge and respond to great music and dances.
Di Jiang is the original inspiration for Daoist traditions and cultivation activities. It symbolizes the idealized state of living in which we fully immerse in our bodily experiences without relying on the sensory organs to judge or form biases. As a result, we are able to relax more and perceive a sense of “ease” inside, and our mobility, freedom and deep sense of joy increase as we become more and more grounded in the body.
